While we here in West Michigan were "dealing with" a cloudy, dreary Monday, the east side of the state was getting rain all day long. That rain caused a lot of problems on Monday afternoon and evening and will continue to be an issue on Tuesday morning.

Both I-75 and I-94 were closed on Monday afternoon, stranding some drivers and slowing down the drive home for many more.

MSP and MDOT are asking people to stay off freeways in and around Detroit.  They do not have a set time when the freeways will be opened, because engineers aren't certain how quickly the sewer systems will be able to handle all of the water.

Freeway sections closed due to heavy rains on Monday included:

  • I-75 at I-696
  • I-75 at I-94
  • I-94 at 12 Mile
  • The Lodge
  • Portions of I-696

Here's the entire story from Detroit's WDIV-TV.
