Lupe Fiasco + Guy Sebastian Perform ‘Battle Scars’ on ‘Letterman’
Lupe Fiasco is on the promotional trail for his latest album 'Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1.' The Chicago rapper appeared on 'The Late Show with David Letterman' Thursday (Sept. 27) for a performance of 'Battle Scars' with Australian singer Guy Sebastian.
Lupe was dressed in all black, including a beanie hat with a skull printed on it. Guy sported a charcoal-colored T-shirt that showed off his one tattooed muscular arm. Together, the duo gave a charging performance of 'Battle Scars.'
According to early industry figures, Lupe's 'Food & Liquor II' album is on track to sell between 85,000 to 95,000 copies in its first week of release. Outside of his promotional run, the Windy City rapper is doing big things behind the scenes for hip-hop community.
Currently, Lupe is involved with World Up, an organization to help empower the youth through music. Among some of its objectives is to each literacy and social responsibility to young people throughout the world. "It's all about cultivating creativity [through] music production," he says about the organization's mission.
World Up just received a $25,000 grant to run an after-school program. But they are also looking for more donations via their online campaign to help match the grant so they can expand their cause worldwide.
Although Lupe is known for starting controversy, he does have a good heart. It's always good to see rappers give back to the hip-hop community and inspire young people to make a positive change within their own surroundings.
