Lions’ Matthew Stafford Continues To Save His Best For Last [Video]

If I can give NFL teams one bit of advice when they’re facing the Lions and Matt Stafford it would be to let them beat you the first three quarters.

Because that seems to be the only way to win after four of them.

Last year, Stafford set an NFL record becoming the first ever QB to lead his team to eight comeback wins in the fourth quarter—and yesterday he took the first step in breaking that record.

The silly Arizona Cardinals took a two-point 23-21 lead into the final quarter then fifteen minutes and two TD passes later, Matt Stafford had reminded everyone why he is the highest paid player in football.

Stafford threw four touchdown passes yesterday, including a pair to rookie Kenny Golladay in that final quarter leading the Lions past Arizona 35-23.

The Lions defense was a big part as well, as they picked off three of Carson Palmer’s passes, returning one for a score earlier in the game and they knocked David Johnson out of the game after forcing him to fumble in the third quarter Sunday.

Ironically, Stafford’s first pass of the season was returned 82-yards for a touchdown by Justin Bethel, but the player with the richest contract in the NFL bounced back finishing 29 for 41-yards for 292-yards and four TD’s.

As a lifelong Lions fan, I know not to get my hopes up, but let me just this about Matt Stafford: He is so money.

The opening game didn’t go so well at first for Lions special teams as Kasey Redfern, a rookie filling in for injured punter Sam Martin, hurt his knee in the first quarter when he dropped a snap in the end zone, picked up the ball and tried to run it out. Placekicker Matt Prater punted the next four times for Detroit.
