The best-selling album of 2013 should not come as a shock. It was Justin Timberlake's "The 20/20 Experience," which was his triumphant return to music. Robin Thicke's ubiquitous "Blurred Lines" was the top-selling single of the year.

The news was reported by Billboard.

"The 20/20 Experience," which dropped March 19, sold 2.43 million. Only one other year end chart-topper in history sold less than 3 million, and it was Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter III," which sold 2.87 million in 2008.

"Blurred Lines" sold 6.5 million copies and is one of just 26 songs to sell over six million copies since 1991.

The numbers suggest singles are selling more briskly than full albums.

The stats were tracked from Dec. 31, 2012, through Dec. 29, 2013.
