A new addition is coming to John Ball Zoo in Grand Rapids.

Construction of two tiger habitats has begun.  The exhibits will open over the next two years.

John Ball Zoo broke ground on the project on Thursday.

WZZM13.com reports:

This exhibit will bring tigers back to the zoo after six years without the animals.

Two tiger habitats will be included in the project. The first will open in the summer of 2014, and the second in the summer of 2015.

Three tigers will inhabit the exhibit at first: two brothers and an unrelated female.

This state-of-the-art exhibit with multiple habitats and a tiger trail will be located on the south end of the newly expanded IDEMA Forest Realm.  The tiger trail allows the tigers to patrol the woods and move from one habitat to another.  The trail will be viewable from the visitor boardwalk.

Looking forward to the new exhibit!
