Over the weekend, John Ball Zoo opened for 2014. The zoo had to use backhoes and dump trucks to clear out all the snow, but it was a successful opening for the new year!

(And although they don't have polar bears, I used that picture because that's what you'll feel like walking around over the next few weeks!)  Admission only $5 for adults and $4 for kids, through May 9th.

Something else neat is their "Behind the Scenes" programs that your kids would love to experience, like being "Zookeeper for a Day."  It's offered weekdays from 8am to noon and participants work side by side with zoo employees and learn what it takes to care for the sheep and goats, plus owls, snakes, lizards, porcupines and more.  (Plus your kid will get a "Keeper For A Day" shirt, a picture doing the work and a certificate of completion)
