It’s not a Drive-In Movie, but it is an Outdoor “Walk-Up Movie” in East Grand Rapids
As a kid, some of our most exciting times were spent at the Drive-In Movie. Our parents would surprise us and we couldn’t wait. Mom would cook sandwiches, we’d load the cooler with Grapette drinks (my favorite soda in it’s day), make popcorn, and we’d be off. It was all too much fun.
There aren’t many Drive-In’s left anymore. I think Muskegon is the closest, but what about a kind of ‘walk-up’ movie. But I mean, out doors, walking up with your lawn chairs, sitting down with your own picnic and enjoying a great family movie.
It’s here. Sponsored by Macatawa Bank, movies will be shown on a 30’ inflatable screen at one end of John Collins Park and begin at “dusk,” in East Grand Rapids, in July. The dates and movies are:
Friday, July 13 – Dolphin Tale
Friday, July 27 – African Cats
Friday, August 10 – Winnie The Pooh
Friday, August 24 – Hop
Bring a lawn chair or blanket. Snack vendors will have food and drinks at the movies, or you can bring your own. No barbecues, grilling, open fires or alcohol are allowed in John Collins Park. All dogs must be on a leash. In case of severe weather concerts and movies may be cancelled and not rescheduled. For the status of each day’s events, call 940-4800, ext. 300.
