It used to be a given that a college education was worth the money. But the price of a four-year education has skyrocketed over the last couple decades, and — due to the bad economy –a college degree has become less of a surefire job guarantee.

So have these factors changed opinions on college’s worthiness?

According to a new survey by Country Financial they have, only 57 percent of the 3,000 adults polled believe that a college degree is worth the cost. When the same question was asked in 2008, 81 percent of respondents answered that college was a good deal.

To get an idea of how much college costs, currently one year of college tuition ranges from $15,250 (Penn State, main campus) to a high of $43,990 for a non-profit school (Connecticut College).
