1,532 people wore fake mustaches at LaughFest in Grand Rapids on March 7.

It was a new Guinness World Record for "largest gathering of people wearing false mustaches".

On July 26, a group of cyclists in Iowa will attempt to break that record.

The mustache record set in Grand Rapids in March marked the third straight year a world record was set at LaughFest.  In 2012, it was most people wearing fake animal noses.  In 2011, it was the "largest rubber chicken toss".

Cyclists will attempt to break the fake mustache record in Fairfield, Iowa on July 26 at 5:30pm local time.  They are preparing for up to 4,000 people.  It's part of The Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI). RAGBRAI.com describes the event as:

...an annual seven-day bicycle ride across the state.  Heading into its 41st year, RAGBRAI is the oldest, largest and longest recreational bicycle touring event in the world.  Des Moines Register Media has been the title sponsor of RAGBRAI since 1973.

Time will tell if the LaughFest record stands.  Either way, it's only a matter of time before LaughFest and Grand Rapids re-enter the Guinness World Record book with another bit of silly history in 2014.
