In October, Grand Rapids Public Schools announced a proposal to close ten schools.  They also proposed other changes, including adding school uniforms.

What do you think of the proposal?

GRPS has held three student-parent-community meetings to discuss the proposal.  There will be two more, plus staff meetings and board meetings, before a final decision is made on December 17.

Creston High School is among those being considered for closure, but the building could remain open.  Moving students from City High-Middle School to the Creston campus, then closing the City High-Middle School campus is also being discussed.  City High-Middle School students need more space and Creston has it.

There are many in favor of the change and many opposed.  Most will find parts of the proposal they like and parts they don't like.  Creating change that will please everyone is likely impossible, but finding a way to improve schools and better serve students is necessary.

Closing schools is very difficult. But doing nothing is not an option.

The next student-parent-community meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 15, from 6:00pm - 7:30pm at Union High School.
