This morning Major Norman Grainger, of the Salvation Army, stopped by The River to talk about this year's Red Kettle Campaign.

The goal this year is to raise $1.65 million. The donations raised at Christmas will be used as a financial springboard to fund programs and services throughout the year. Currently they have raised about 40% of their goal (which is a little behind where they were last year at this time). Donations collected will be used to help those who are hungry, homeless and addicted right here in Kent County. Donations collected in a community stay in that local community.

Beginning this Friday, December 22nd, and running through Christmas Eve, the community will have the opportunity to "Give Once; Bless Twice" with a $110,000 Matching Challenge Gift. This campaign is available through the generosity of Grand Rapids Advisory Board members and a core group of dedicated Salvation Army donors. Your donations from all sources (online, mail, the red kettles, phone, etc.) will be matched up to the $110,000 Matching Gift amount!!!
