A HUGE salary for a basketball coach whose team doesn't generate much income, and hotel rooms for home games for a losing football team? Does that sound like wasted money?

HBO's investigative sports program 'Real Sports' takes a look at the athletic spending at Eastern Michigan University on this week's show, demonstrating that it may be a wee bit out of whack in terms of the return on the investment.

In the trailer for this week's episode 229, an EMU professor, Howard Buntzes tells Real Sports reporter Jon Frankel that the Ypsilanti school is involved in 'an economic arms race we cannot win' when referring to the spending on athletics at Eastern. 'We are throwing money down the drain...we are inhibiting the quality of education we provide.'

The trailer also features a 32 year old senior at EMU, Kelly Adams, who says the money spent on sports is wasted on her, because she has nothing to do with it.

'There's 15 computers in our classroom for 35 of us', Adams woefully admits.

When told that the football team spends money staying in a hotel before home games, Adams replies, 'Why? That makes no sense.'

The episode, hosted by Bryant Gumbel, will air all week on HBO, including 4:30pm Friday afternoon, April 22.
