During the school year, thousands of Grand Rapids Public School students are provided with free meals. Meals they might not have if it weren't for the school progam.  But, what happens when school is out for the summer? Do they go hungry? Not to worry, its handled.

Grand Rapids Public Schools is holding the Summer Food Showcase on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 from 4:30-6:00pm at Gerald R. Ford Academic Center,  851 Madison Ave SE
Grand Rapids, MI 49507. The event will offer families information about where to find free meals this summer and provide attendees with an opportunity to taste delicious, healthy foods, take home the recipes, and enjoy kid friendly activities.

Free summer meals will be provided for children 18 and under at more than 20 sites throughout Grand Rapids. The meals begin June 20 and are funded through the US Department of Agriculture’s “Meet Up and Eat Up” program. No registration is required; children simply show up to any of the sites and enjoy a tasty, free, and nutritious meal. All sites offer lunch and either breakfast or a snack. A complete list of sites will be available at the Summer Food Showcase and online following the event at www.grps.org/nutrition.

“We know that hunger doesn’t take a summer vacation, so the summer meal program is critical for many families. Meet Up and Eat Up summer meals are easy to access and can help families stretch their grocery budget a little farther," said Superintendent Teresa Weatherall Neal.
