Mark your calendars now for Thursday, April 11, at the Grand Rapids Art Museum.  Specialized coffee roasts, along with desserts, appetizers and the sounds of jazz, will be featured at a fundraising event for the Groundswell initiative.

Groundswell provides educational opportunities for students and teachers in Kent County by training teachers and providing funds for classrooms to participate in environmental service-learning projects.

The Groundswell program, is made up of a network of local organizations and housed at the Grand Valley State University College of Education.

Groundswell currently serves 15 schools and 1,200 students through 50 community partnerships. Teachers and students will share their environmental stewardship projects at the event, and, my friend Shelly Irwin from Grand Valley, will be emcee.

Not only will it be an educational evening, it will be a "yummy" event as well, featuring coffee from Madcap Coffee Company and music from the Roger MacNaughton Quartet with jazz vocalist Kathy LaMar.

Tickets are $35 until April 5 and $45 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at groundswellmi.org.

The event is supported by the Kent Intermediate School District and the Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative.

For more information contact Colleen Bourque, Groundswell coordinator, at (616) 331-6240.
