Great Lakes Ice Coverage Rises From 2.7 to 11.6 Percent in One Week
A cold start to 2015 has ice spreading quickly across the Great Lakes.
In just one week, Great Lakes ice coverage rose from 2.7 percent to 11.6 percent.
Ice has been in the north for a while. On New Year's Eve, a ferry carrying over 50 passengers got stuck in the ice on the way to Mackinac Island.
The rapid spread of ice is expected to continue as current forecasts predict more cold temperatures across Michigan.
The ice from last winter never fully disappeared from the Great Lakes until June 5.
Hoping ice doesn't stay around quite as long this time around.
