Hearty congratulations to forward Susie Kluting from the Grand Rapids Sled Wings adult sled hockey team as she has been named to the 2015-16 U.S. Women’s Sled Hockey Team.

This season will mark the fourth time that Kluting has represented her country. She spent two years on the squad from 2011-13 then was an alternate in 2013-14 before rejoining the team last season. Kluting becomes the second member of the Sled Wings to earn a spot on a national team this summer, as teammate Robert Thrailkill Jr. was recently named to the U.S. National Developmental Sled Hockey Team for the third straight year.

Kluting, 23, began her hockey career with the Sled Wings’ junior team during its inaugural 2001-02 campaign and played 10 seasons before moving up to the adult team in 2011. A second-year student at Muskegon Community College who’s studying child care, she has participated in a number of other adaptive sports over the years, including wheelchair tennis, rock climbing, swimming, water skiing and snow skiing. She is a graduate of Coopersville High School.

The Sled Wings’ adult team is sponsored by Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital, which in partnership with the Griffins Youth Foundation also oversees the Sled Wings’ junior program. In addition to Kluting’s four selections to the U.S. Women’s Sled Hockey Team, the adult and junior Sled Wings squads have sent four players on to the U.S. National Developmental Sled Hockey Team since 2009, garnering a total of nine selections.
