The City of Grand Rapids is reminding residents to be sure to clear their sidewalks.

The rules within the city are that homeowners have 24 hours after it snows to clear their sidewalks. If they fail to do so, they can be issued a warning by the city, and they then have 48 hours to clear them after that. If at that point the sidewalk has not been cleared, a city contractor will clear the sidewalks, and the property owner will be charged a fee.

When the sidewalks are covered, people will often walk in the street, which is dangerous to both pedestrians and drivers.
