GRPS, Grand Rapids Public Schools, have another program to celebrate.

Today, students from the Academy of Design and Construction (ADC) will celebrate the completion of the Habitat for Humanity home they built during the 2013-2014school year. ADC students and teachers rehabbed the home in the Black Hills neighborhood through a partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Kent County that enables students to gain hands-on construction experience while helping a local family.

As part of the celebration, ADC students will hand over the keys to the future homeowner, today at 11:30 a.m. The home, 941 Merrill Ave. SW, is part of Habitat for Humanity of Kent County’s Building Blocks Campaign to help 200 families in two years in five West Side neighborhoods.

Established in 1983, Habitat for Humanity of Kent County is committed to the mission of serving God, building hope and transforming lives through neighborhood revitalization and home ownership for families who otherwise could not afford a home of their own. Habitat Kent is a proud partner of the GRPS Academy of Design and Construction, whose students and teachers build a Habitat home each year as a hands-on learning experience.
