The City of Grand Rapids and the Grand Rapids Police Department announced Thursday that they will begin enforcing Odd/Even Parking rules on November 1. The enforcement will last until April 1, 2015.

This enforcement does not apply to all streets in Grand Rapids.

The city ordinance aims to ensure that snow plows can remove snow, and also that fire, police, and ambulances will be able to get to homes during emergency situations.

Residents will need to park on EVEN sides of the street on EVEN days between 1 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

They will then park on ODD sides of the street on ODD days between 1 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The Grand Rapids Police Department said on their Facebook page,

Now, does this mean if there is no snow we are going to ticket you? No,it does not necessarily mean that, however, we could. Now, we realize that muddy's up the water a bit. Our streets department would love for you to comply so they can do some street sweeping and get the leaves that I'm sure most of you did not rake out of the street. That would be dangerous and plain silly.

We know there is not a lot of love for this ordinance, but any help you can give us to comply would be awesome. Do you remember last year's snowmageddon? Well, we wrote almost 14,000 odd/even tickets. Some of our fire trucks could not get to or had a hard time getting to emergency calls! Please help us out.
