The Grand Rapids Griffins have been a super part of the Grand Rapids community for so many years.  The locally owned team, a part of the Detroit Red Wings and an American Hockey League member, always find a way to give back.

As a matter of fact, the “Griffins Give Back” program will begin its fourth season by giving 450 free tickets to this Saturday’s game against Hamilton to volunteers who will be donating their time, talent and labor earlier this Saturday, October 13th during "The Big Day of Serving."

The Griffins are donating these lower-bowl tickets to volunteers of “The Big Day of Serving,” which is a nationwide effort that brings together families, friends, adults, Bible study groups, youth groups and others   for a one-day service project that aims to transform an entire neighborhood.

Grand Rapids was recently chosen as one of nine cities targeted by the group, which is expected to involve between 400-1,000 participants. Tasks typically include recycling electronics, painting, cleaning up alleys, removing debris and working with residents to accomplish any other maintenance projects to help improve local neighborhoods.

Griffins fans are welcome to get involved in the project by visiting thebigdayofserving.com to find more information or to register to participate. The $29 registration fee includes a morning kickoff rally, necessary project supplies, lunch and a t-shirt, but it does not include transportation.

Let's get going, Grand Rapids.  Get "Serving" and "Give Back."
