‘Grand Rapids For Animals’ Protests Circus

The Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus played Van Andel Arena over the weekend and you may have seen some protesters out in front. The name of the group is “Grand Rapids For Animals”.

Though I didn’t get to talk with them for long, I was able to find out that they have a website and a Facebook page, both with lots of links to animal activist and other related websites.

The flyer they gave me reads: “Grand Rapids for Animals would like to see Grand Rapids become one of the progressive cities who does not tolerate animal cruelty in entertainment. We want Grand Rapids to be among the growing list of communities that have passed regulations that promote humane treatment of elephants and other animals used in the entertainment industry.”
