On Saturday, Godwin Heights boys' basketball team won the Class B state championshi on Saturday, beating Detroit Henry Ford 85-68 in East Lansing.

The win was the first state championship for Godwin Heights.

The team had made it to the semifinals in the past, most recently in 2013, and was runner-up in 1950.

Godwin Heights lead 25-12 after the first quarter, then 50-29 at halftime. They were 10 of 15 from behind the 3-point line, while Detroit Henry Ford finished 6 of 23 on 3-pointers.

Godwin Heights senior Delaney Blaylock told MHSAA's Second Half: “I just didn’t want to be comfortable being in the state championship, but (wanted) to win the state championship.”

Godwin Heights finished the year 26-1.

NorthPointe Christian finished as runner-up in Class C after losing to Flint Beecher, 78-52.
