West Michigan is such a supportive, loving and giving community. The Salvation Army of Kent County certainly found that out, as they successfully raised $43,633 on Tuesday, December 1, during the national “Giving Tuesday” – a national day of giving at the start of the annual holiday season that celebrates and encourages charitable activities that support nonprofit organizations.

The $43,500 donation total collected on “Giving Tuesday” was used to activate the $30,000 matching gift from The Salvation Army’s Grand Rapids Advisory Board. The matching gift was created to demonstrate like-minded support by the board of The Salvation Army, its programs and services.

The goal for the current Christmas Campaign is $1.6 million. With the current economic challenges, The Salvation Army continues to count on the generosity of the Grand Rapids community to financially support the programs and services which are so vital.
