A West Michigan student athlete is about to embark on a trip of a lifetime with the goal of gaining some worldwide recognition.

Our news partner, WZZM TV13, reports Forest Hills Northern junior Mitch Dewey leaves today, Sunday, for Sofia, Bulgaria, where he will compete at the World Trampoline and Tumbling competition.

He's 16 years old and ranked number one in the country in his age bracket.

Dewey says he's been preparing for this moment since he was 8 and hopes a good showing next week will put him on the radar for the 2016 men's Olympic gymnastic team in Rio.

Who does he think will be the toughest competition?  Dewey thinks the Russians and Germans.

At any rate, best wishes and GOOD LUCK Mitch!
