Your donation to Food for Families makes a big difference in your community! Local food pantries are often inundated during the holiday season because people are in the spirit of giving. But the giving slows dramatically during the summer months. That's unfortunate because experts know... hunger doesn't take a summer vacation. In fact, food pantries struggle to keep up with the demand for help during the summer months. And now there is a new face of hunger in our community. People who one or two years ago were holding jobs and feeding their families without trouble, now need to rely on food pantries.

Because of that, 100.5 The River, WZZM 13, Spartan Stores, Rhoades McKee, Coles and Lamar Construction are teaming up this summer to help meet the needs of hungry families in West Michigan.  Food for Families runs from June 6 -13, 2011. During the campaign, you're encouraged to donate canned goods and non-perishables to the local food pantries. The food collected will be distributed to pantries by ACCESS, a non-profit organization whose goal it is to connect people with resources with people in need. The food will be distributed to pantries throughout Michigan.

Drop off locations include Spartan Stores and WWZM 13 -- a Spartan truck will be parked in WZZM's parking lot, ready to collect you're donations. Join us as we kick off the campaign Monday, June 6th. Kim Carson will be broadcasting live 4:30 to 6:30 PM. We'll end the drive on June 13th, 5 to 6:30 PM  with an Ice Cream Social at ZZM, hosted by Andy & Chuck!
