UPDATE (6:16 p.m.): Police have confirmed the identity as Timothy Groenhout, who was last seen Jan. 24 in downtown Grand Rapids.

At this time, it is unclear how Groenhout ended in the Grand River. The cause of his death appears to be drowning, although toxicology results are pending. Foul play is not suspected.

ORIGINAL STORY: Grand Rapids police said a body was found Saturday night in the Grand River near the Kent Trail.

The body was found just south of O'Brien Road where I-196 goes over the river.

The Grand Haven Tribune is reporting that the victim is 39-year-old Timothy Groenhout, who went missing Jan. 21 from downtown Grand Rapids.

Groenhout's family believes that he was on foot the day he went missing -- heading to cash a check and go to a second round of job interviews at a downtown restaurant.

That check was never cashed, and Groenhout never showed up for the interviews.

A medical examiner is expected to perform an autopsy today.
