Way too often, it seems the story is something like "the family gave up their animal(s), because they had to move."  As a dog lover (and someone who misses his now-departed best friend every single day), stories like those trouble me.

So, imagine my surprise when I read a headline about a family who DIDN'T give up their beloved Pit Bull and instead opted to become homeless until the right place came along.

The story on ABC News says:

The Devia family never expected to be in that situation until Carol and her husband were fired from their newspaper delivery job at the same time last year.

When the family told their landlord what happened, they were evicted from their apartment. Their savings, credit and stability began dwindling rapidly. Worst of all, she said, they couldn’t find a new place to live that would let them bring Rocco, the kind of dog that slept next to them every night.

“I can’t find a place unless I give up my dog, and everyone tells me to, but I can’t do that,” Devia said. “We’ve had Camilla her whole life and Rocco her whole life.”

Tons of respect to the family who understands the true bond between a dog and their humans.
