Familiar Artists, Former Finalist and Duct Tape Coming to Ford Museum for ArtPrize
Artists and venues have begun connecting for ArtPrize Eight in Grand Rapids.
Artist registration will continue through June 2 and the artist/venue connection period lasts through June 16, but we already have an early look at what to expect at ArtPrize.
Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum currently has seven entries listed for ArtPrize Eight.
- Alderman was a Public Vote finalist in the Time-Based category at ArtPrize in 2015 for "Hometown Hero" which was at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel. Visitors were invited to write the names of their heroes on the entry. Alderman's 2014 entry "The Scarlet Cord" also drew a lot of attention as it brought awareness to the problem of human trafficking. "Color Me Orange - Color Me Kind" continues Alderman's focus on social issues, this time dealing with the issue of bullying.
- Anyone who has visited the Ford Museum during ArtPrize since 2011 should be familiar with La Doux's work. La Doux uses recycled materials to create art. This year's entry will continue along the same theme as 2015's "Troll Bridge" and 2014's "kNights Watch" by featuring tiny figures in a variety of poses.
- Warburton is back at ArtPrize with a duct tape creation for the fourth consecutive year, his first at Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum. Warburton's work was featured at First (Park) Congregational in 2015, Fifth Third Bank/Warner Norcross & Judd LLP in 2014 and Boardwalk GR Condominiums in 2013.
- Sliwinski is back at ArtPrize for the fifth consecutive year. Sliwinski's work features yarn and felt on canvas.
- Askegaard will use ink, wood and bronze for her entry this year. Last year's popular entry "A Breakthrough" at Ford Museum used ink, paper, wood, fabric and resin. This is Askegaard's fifth consecutive year at ArtPrize.
- Dahlberg will use mixed media at ArtPrize this year, her sixth consecutive year entering the competition. She may be best remembered for last year's "Phenomena 117" which contained shoes hanging in a blue tree outdoors at Fifth Third Bank/Warner Norcross & Judd LLP.
- Teremi is back at ArtPrize for the fourth straight year. The Rockford resident has featured water or lighthouses each year.
