Eastbound I-96 Closed At M-6 Due To Accident Investigation

Update (11:40am): The eastbound lanes of I-96 have reopened near M-6 in Cascade Township.

It appears that authorities have removed a body from a car that crashed into the Thornapple River according to WZZM 13′s Peter Ross.

The call about the accident came in around 9am on Wednesday, and dispatchers say the vehicle flipped over and fwas ully submerged in the river near I-96 and M-6 with one person was reportedly trapped inside. Two uniformed deputies jumped into the river to try to reach the vehicle, but had to turn back.

Eastbound I-96 at M-6 is closed due to the crash.

Authorities were later able to remove the vehicle from the water.
