Another successful weekend for West Michigan high school sports!

Two more trophies came home as the East Grand Rapids and Rockford girls lacrosse teams won state championships!

It's a long road to the lacrosse state championship game and two local teams finished on top over the weekend!

East Grand Rapids beat Livonia Ladywood 16-6 to win the Division 2 girls championship! Secondhalf.mhsaa.com talks about East Grand Rapids' continued dominance over all divisions this year:

The Pioneers improved from 13-6 to 15-6 to 28-0 and now 22-2 over the last four seasons under coach Rich Axtell, and this season’s losses came to teams from Ohio and Illinois. EGR hasn’t lost to an in-state opponent since 2011 – when it fell in double overtime in a Regional Semifinal to eventual Finals champion Grand Rapids Catholic Central.

East Grand Rapids beat GRCC three times this season and finished a combined 8-0 against the next three teams ranked after the Pioneers in Division 2 at the end of the regular season. They also beat six of the top 10 in Division 1, including top-ranked Rockford.

Rockford beat Bloomfield United 16-7 to earn the Division 1 championship!  Secondhalf.mhsaa.com talks about Rockford's year-long success:

Rockford (21-5), No. 1 in the computer rankings heading into the postseason, had fallen by a goal in the Semifinals in each of the last two years. Beating Bloomfield Hills, ranked No. 4 at the end of the regular season, gave the Rams wins over all of the other four teams ranked among the top five in Division 1 at the tournament's start.
