East Grand Rapids And Rockford Girls Lacrosse Teams Win State Championships
Another successful weekend for West Michigan high school sports!
Two more trophies came home as the East Grand Rapids and Rockford girls lacrosse teams won state championships!
It's a long road to the lacrosse state championship game and two local teams finished on top over the weekend!
East Grand Rapids beat Livonia Ladywood 16-6 to win the Division 2 girls championship! Secondhalf.mhsaa.com talks about East Grand Rapids' continued dominance over all divisions this year:
The Pioneers improved from 13-6 to 15-6 to 28-0 and now 22-2 over the last four seasons under coach Rich Axtell, and this season’s losses came to teams from Ohio and Illinois. EGR hasn’t lost to an in-state opponent since 2011 – when it fell in double overtime in a Regional Semifinal to eventual Finals champion Grand Rapids Catholic Central.
East Grand Rapids beat GRCC three times this season and finished a combined 8-0 against the next three teams ranked after the Pioneers in Division 2 at the end of the regular season. They also beat six of the top 10 in Division 1, including top-ranked Rockford.
Rockford beat Bloomfield United 16-7 to earn the Division 1 championship! Secondhalf.mhsaa.com talks about Rockford's year-long success:
Rockford (21-5), No. 1 in the computer rankings heading into the postseason, had fallen by a goal in the Semifinals in each of the last two years. Beating Bloomfield Hills, ranked No. 4 at the end of the regular season, gave the Rams wins over all of the other four teams ranked among the top five in Division 1 at the tournament's start.

Also, big congratulations to the boys lacrosse teams in Forest Hills. Forest Hills Northern/Eastern finishes as Division 1 state runner-up following a 14-10 loss to Bloomfield Hills Brother Rice.
Forest Hills Central boys lacrosse finishes as Division 2 state runner-up after losing to 10-9 to Bloomfield Hill Cranbrook-Kingswood.
