Earth, Wind & Fire and Chicago have announced a North American co-headlining summer tour.

The Chicago and Earth Wind & Fire Heart and Soul Tour kicks off July 15 in Concord, Calif., with 25 dates, including DTE Energy Music Theater in Clarkston on Aug. 26.

Chicago's Lee Loughnane said: "One of the most exciting things about the show is when both bands perform at the end of the concert. Having these 21 very talented musicians playing our greatest hits together puts the excitement level at a fever pitch!"

Earth, Wind & Fire's Philip Bailey said: "We are looking forward to it ourselves."

Between them, Chicago and Earth, Wind & Fire, with both groups from Chicago, have sold more than 200 million albums and snagged 20 Grammy nominations.

Inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2000, Earth, Wind & Fire -- which includes co-founders Bailey, Verdine White and Ralph Johnson -- has won eight Grammy Awards.

While Chicago's album Chicago Transit Authority was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2014, the band is still not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. That despite it being the first American band with top 40 albums in six different decades, with 11 No. 1 singles, 21 top 10 singles, five consecutive No. 1 albums and 25 of 36 albums certified platinum along with a Grammy Award in its 48 years in existence.

The tour is being promoted by Live Nation. Tickets for most dates, including Clarkston, go on sale at 10 a.m. EST March 13.
