The anticipation for each season's home opener is always exciting, but the excitement didn't last long during the Detroit Lions home opener against the New York Jets.

According to WOOD TV, there was not much that was positive to say about the Lions but there was lots for the New York Jets to be excited about like their new quarterback Sam Darnold. Aside from his opening pick 6, Darnold had a stellar opener for being the youngest quarterback to start a season opener since 1970.

The Jets picked off Detroit's Mathew Stafford 4 times and Matt Cassel once for a Monday night beat down of 48-17.

The Lions seem to be the one team in history that other teams seem to set their franchise records against and last night was no exception. The Jets set a franchise record for points scored on the road beating their last record of 47 from back in 1967.

The Jets set another team record by scoring 31 points in the third quarter.

The only Detroit highlights were the pick 6 against Darnold in the first quarter and the TD pass to Golden Tate early in the third quarter to tie the the game at 17. Unfortunately, that would be the last time the Lions would score for the rest of the game.

The Jets scored every way possible, on the ground, through the air, on defense and a punt return that really poured the salt on the wounds of the Lions.

To wrap up the game, Jets QB Darnold tossed the ball to one of the ref's at the final kneel down to take time off the clock. The ref gave the ball back to Darnold after shaking the rookie's hand for his opening victory.

It was a miserable coaching debut for Detroit's Matt Patricia.

"Had a couple good plays," Patricia said. "But a couple good plays isn't going to make a game."

Ford Field was pretty much empty of Lions fans after the third quarter which left the few Jets fans that made the trip loud enough for everyone to hear the chant of "J-E-T-S, JETS! JETS! JETS!

Next up for the Lions will be in San Francisco against the 49ers this Sunday.
