Davenport University and its chapter of the Student Veterans of America (SVA) is celebrating Veteran’s Day on Monday, Nov. 11, 2013 on its W.A. Lettinga Campus in Grand Rapids. The event is free and open to the public.

The celebration will be held at the Robert W. Sneden Center, First Floor of the W.A.Lettinga Campus at 6191 Kraft Ave. SE.

Members of the military will be displaying vehicles and equipment like those currently being used overseas. Visitors will be encouraged to sign a Davenport University flag and write letters to deployed DU students currently serving in combat. Military vehicles and weapons that were used in combat operations by the 1st Battalion 125th Infantry Regiment in Afghanistan last year are tentatively scheduled to be on display.

There also will be a face painting and temporary tattoo table for kids and a free hot dog lunch.

Here is the schedule of events on Monday:

10:30 a.m.
Event begins, color guard displays color and guest speaker

11:00 a.m.
Moment of silence followed by the National Anthem

11:02 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Free lunch (hot dogs, chips, pop, coffee, hot chocolate), military equipment displays, veteran service vendors on hand
