Military Times today announced the Best for Vets: Colleges 2015 ranking, which included Davenport University. Only three other Michigan-based universities or colleges appeared in the Best for Vets rankings, the most comprehensive school-by-school assessment of veteran and military students’ success rates.

Davenport University offers specialized services, dedicated admissions staff and advisors trained to work with service members and veterans, and in some cases, college credit based for experiences obtained while in the military.

For instance, last year Davenport became one of only nine colleges across the U.S. to be awarded funding for the Veteran’s Bachelor of Science Nursing Degree. Many returning military service members and veterans have medical training coupled with combat medical experience, which translate well into a nursing career when provided the opportunity to enhance and further grow that knowledge-base and skill-sets. Davenport University’s Veteran Bachelor of Science in Nursing Pre-Licensure Program (VBSN PL) allows veterans and inactive military members to successfully pursue and attain a BSN, pass the NCLEX and obtain a healthcare nursing position.

The survey behind the Best for Vets ranking did not manipulate mainstream research to skew more “veteran.” Instead, the detailed survey required schools to meticulously document services, special rules, accommodations and financial incentives offered to military and veteran students and to describe many aspects of veteran culture on a campus.
