When I asked my engineer here at the radio station what he had planned for Valentine's Day his answer kind of surprised me!  He's married, he has a lovely wife and a couple kids, a boy and a 10 year old girl.

He said, "I've got the Daddy/Daughter Valentine's Day Dance at my daughter's school!"  "How cool is that," I said.  I wish that they were doing those when I was growing up.

It sure sounded like a nice idea, but I think it goes a lot deeper than that.  It's the perfect setting for little girls to learn how to be treated.  Instead of focusing on romance and little boys let them learn the basics of respect, conversation and comfortability in being allowed to be themselves.

Mike, my engineer said he made a whole night of it with his 10 year old daughter!  After they picked up her corsage and headed over to the dance with all the other daddys and daughters, they waited in line to have their photo taken.  Then after the dance, daddy and daughter went out for a nice dinner together.

Now that's the way to treat a young girl!  Her first boyfriend will have some pretty big shoes to fill when he tries to woo her.

I looked for some local video of a daddy/daughter dance but could find none.  So you'll just have to settle for this youtube video to get an idea of what they're all about.
