Consumers Energy is warning its customers about a new scam that has popped up in recent weeks. Customers have been called by someone claiming that they work for Consumers and that the customer's utility payment needs to be made immediately by credit card or their service will be turned off.

Most of these incidents have taken place in Southwest Michigan (Kalamazoo area), there have also been reports of someone going door-to-door doing the same thing.

Customers with questions or concerns that they may have participated in a scam should call Consumers Energy at 1.800.477.5050.

Consumers Energy wants to remind customers not to give money or personal information over the phone to anyone they do not know, and that they would not call you to demand payment of an overdue bill.
