Here at The River, we're always eager to help fellow residents of GR and West Michigan.  So I wanted to tell you about a drive to collect winter clothing items for the YWCA of West Central Michigan.

This is the 5th year that Fogle Orthodontics is hosting the “Warm Hands Warm Hearts” drive for the families living at the YWCA West Central Michigan’s domestic violence emergency shelter.

Now through Thursday, December 20th, you're encouraged to drop off new or gently used hats, mittens, scarves and gloves at Fogle Orthodontics, 933 Three Mile Road NW, Suite 102 in GR.  They're open Monday-Friday 8a-5p (closed 1-2pm for lunch).

They need items for women AND children.

From the press release:

At the end of the collection drive, Dr. Fogle and her staff will deliver the items to the YWCA for distribution to domestic violence victims and their children. Each year, the YWCA provides confidential emergency shelter to more than 500 women and children who are fleeing situations of domestic violence.

Eileen McKeever, director of the YWCA’s domestic violence emergency shelter, says, “When women and children flee violent situations, there often isn’t time to grab the winter clothing items they’ll need. When they show up at our door in the middle of the night in pajamas, we are able to hand them scarves, gloves, hats, and coats. The families are so grateful.”
