Civic Theatre’s Summer Repertory Program Producing Shows
The Summer Repertory Theatre program from The Grand Rapids Civic Theatre is presenting Ramona Quimby and Schoolhouse Rock LIVE, July 27-August 5 in the Meijer Majestic Theatre as part of the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre School of Theatre Arts’ Summer Repertory Theatre (SRT) program.
The Summer Repertory Theatre program is a fantastic opportunity for young people to learn theatre. The program emphasizes training in the entire spectrum of theatre-related skills, from acting, to set and costume design, back-stage production, publicity, and more. Youth are selected for the program through an intense audition and interview process. Members involved with the program range in age between 14-19 years.
The Summer Repertory Theatre performances of Ramona Quimby and Schoolhouse Rock LIVE, conclude the 2011/2012 season.
"Ramona Quimby" is based on the highly popular book by Beverly Cleary, Ramona Quimby follows a rambunctious and imaginative girl – Ramona – through the trials and tribulations of a young girl faced with problems outside of her control. With a series of vignettes, we see Ramona discover that life is far from fair and though sisters often do not get along, family is always nice to have around.
"Schoolhouse rock LIVE," based off of the wildly successful and Emmy Award-winning 1970s Saturday morning cartoon series, Schoolhouse Rock LIVE! brings us back to the basics – all while having a great time.
With well-known songs like “Just a Bill,” “Conjunction Junction,” “Lolly, Lolly Lolly” and “Interplanet Janet,” the entire family will be singing along while learning valuable lessons on history, grammar and science.
