More honors are coming Grand Rapids Public Schools way, this time from U.S. News and World Report.

In February, I reported that Grand Rapids Public Schools City High Middle School has been ranked the #1 high school in the state on Bridge Magazine’s list of “2015 High School Academic State Champs”.

Now, City High Middle school has been ranked the #3 high school in the state of Michigan by U.S. News and World Report. It is the #1 high school in West Michigan and #47 in the nation, according to the report.

So, just how does a school get on this report?  Schools must show performance that exceeds expectations based on student poverty rate on state assessments, exceed state averages in proficiency for minority and economically disadvantaged students, meet or exceed the national graduation rate, and prepare students for college based on AP or International Baccalaureate exams.

“City High Middle School has received recognition on best of lists across the country year after year because it is an outstanding program that helps prepare students for college and career,” said Superintendent Teresa Weatherall Neal. “I want to congratulate the students and staff on this accomplishment.”

City High Middle School was the first school in the area to offer the coveted International Baccalaureate Middle Years and Diploma Programme and has consistently been ranked among the top high schools in America by Newsweek, U.S. News and World Report, and the Washington Post.

Admission to City High Middle School requires a theme school application and seats are limited. Learn more at apply.grps.org.
