Grand Rapids Getting Direct Philadelphia and Charlotte US Airways Flights

Flying out of Grand Rapids to Philadelphia or Charlotte is about to get faster starting in early September a couple days after Labor Day.

American Airlines and Gerald R. Ford International Airport announced the addition of non-stop routes to both cities today.

The flights will be operated by US Airways Express, American Airlines announced.

With US Airways merging with American Airlines, the direct flights from Grand Rapids to the largest cities in Pennsylvania and North Carolina are two of eight new routes because of the merger.

About 800,000 rechargeable batteries used in the Summer Infant infant video monitor are being recalled because of burn hazards, according to the U.S. government.

Officials say that the battery in the handheld video monitor can overheat and rupture, which poses a burn hazard to consumers, the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission said Wednesday.
