GVSU Exhibit Explores Persecution of Homosexuals During Nazi Regime

The human atrocities of WWII are well documented in history. The persecution of the Jewish population was the primary focus of the Nazi regime. The haunting pictures and tales from the holocaust will stay with us forever. But there were other groups persecuted as well. Roma (Gypsies), Poles, Soviet prisoners of war, Jehovah’s Witnesses and those disabled during World War II were also targeted. And yet, there is another story.

Jazz Great, Christian McBride, Performs at St. Cecilia Music Center in February

Jazz returns to St. Cecilia Music Center in February with the Christian McBride Trio. They'll be here on February 19, at 7:30 p.m. The trio is formed around premier bassist Christian McBride, along with pianist Christian Sands and drummer Ulysses Owens, Jr.

One of the most dynamic bassist of his generation, 41 year-old Christian McBride creates a jazz tour de force with Sands and Owens, both younger emerging artists. They have been performing as a trio for about three years. In 2014, Christian McBride released his fifth recording “Out Here” on Mack Avenue Records featuring the trio.

Artistic Director Robert Lyall Leaving Opera Grand Rapids

Opera Grand Rapids’ Artistic Director Robert Lyall announced he will resign following next month’s production of Britten’s “Noah’s Flood” after a 26-year tenure. Lyall was named General and Artistic Director of the New Orleans Opera Association (NOOA) in December of 1998, and he has since retained positions with both NOOA and Opera Grand Rapids. Upon his departure, Lyall will devote his energy to further plans and aspirations for NOOA’s forthcoming seasons.
