Wow, it's hard to believe that we are getting ready to kick off ArtPrize 8 in less that a week! (Preview week kicked off on Wednesday, August 14th, but the official start of ArtPrize will be next Wednesday, September 21st.) I have been to each and every ArtPrize. One of the things I've learned over the years is there is always more to art than meets the eye.

ArtPrize Preview Week has begun! Over 30 venues are participating including major venues such as the GRAM, Calvin College - (106) Gallery, The B.O.B. and UICA. One popular and award-winning venue that won't be opening early at ArtPrize Eight is SiTE:LAB.

ArtPrize gets people talking and asking "what is art?". This year's winner of ArtPrize Pitch Night Indianapolis is sure to be a part of that conversation. "Triumphal Entry" by Kipp Normand was selected the winner in Indianapolis by five judges last night. Normand wins a $5,000 cash grant as well as a guaranteed spot in a prime location for ArtPrize Eight in Grand Rapids. Read M

Artist registration closed on Thursday for ArtPrize Eight. At the close of the nearly eight week registration period, 2,124 artists or artist teams have registered 2,008 entries and hope to compete for awards totaling $500,000 this fall in Grand Rapids.

Perhaps you used it as a landmark to figure out which entrance you came in, or maybe you and your hood rat friends hung out near it when you were teenagers. Either way, you remembered the big circular sculpture that adorned the center of the Woodland Mall. It was taken out of the Mall on Sunday, destined for an unknown location downtown.
