The Cascade Township Planning Commission will discuss a new YMCA being proposed for the corner of Kraft and Burton at tonight's meeting.

The YMCA will present their plans at tonight's meeting.

Traffic congestion and traffic signals are a concern.

WZZM has more:

Before the final stamp of approval is given for the YMCA to begin building, a traffic plan has to be approved.

This is the same issue the YMCA ran into last summer; causing plans for a Grand Rapids Township location to be rejected. Now, the location under scrutiny is at the intersection of Kraft and Burton.

Tonight, YMCA officials will present a plan to the Township's Planning Commission. Based on a traffic study conducted by the YMCA, they will recommend adding two traffic lights nearby the planned location.

The YMCA explains the approval process:

The approval process starts with a meeting on April 21st with the Cascade Township Planning Committee.  It is followed with a public hearing with the planning commission on May 19th.  The Planning Commission will vote to recommend (we hope) to the Township Board on June 16th, and the Township Board will vote on the recommendation on July 23rd.

Tonight's meeting is at 2685 Thornhills Avenue in Cascade Township.
