Billy Joel is recovering after undergoing double hip replacement surgery in New York last week. Claire Mercuri, spokesperson for the "Piano Man," explained that Joel underwent surgery to correct a congenital condition.

"Billy Joel is doing extremely well following bilateral hip replacement and will be back at his Long Island home by the end of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend."

Mercuri also noted that Joel was able to enjoy his Thanksgiving meal. He is currently being cared for by ex-wife Christie Brinkley.

"He did them [both his hips] at the same time. Billy said, 'If I do it one at a time I know I'll never go in for the other . . .' He's really doing well. He's really coming through with flying colors," Brinkley tells RadarOnline.com.

Joel's latest album Billy Joel: The Hits celebrates the 40th anniversary of his first solo album. The collection hit stores last week.
