The last thing I read indicated "Bike Week" in downtown Grand Rapids was a dead issue.  But now when the Grand Rapids City Commission votes Tuesday on the issue, it might happen on a smaller  scale.

Our own polls suggest at least two commissioners who were in the 4-to-3 majority against Bike Week may support the event, if promoters agree to certain changes, including cutting the event from a week to three days.
First Ward Commissioner Dave Shaffer said he is leaning toward a yes vote. His First Ward counterpart, Walt Gutowski, said he is leaning toward yes as well. Gutowski told 24 Hour News 8 his discussions with Second Ward Commissioner Ruth Kelly indicate she may vote for the measure.

Third Ward Commissioner James White and Second Ward Commissioner Rosalynn Bliss indicated support for Bike Week during a meeting last week.

Criticism of the event has ranged from too much noise to too much congestion.
