Former First lady Betty Ford passed away Friday evening at age 93 in Texas.  the widow of President Gerald R. Ford was a raised in  Grand Rapids.  She was born Elizabeth Bloomer and graduated from Central High School.   It was one  one more bit of bad news for a city still grieving from yesterday's shooting rampage, that left seven dead in the state's worst mass killings.

Betty Ford will be buried alongside her husband, near the Ford Museum in downtown Grand Rapids.  Hundreds of Thousands turned out for the funeral of Grand Rapids own Gerald Ford a few years ago.  Mrs. Ford was known for her outspoken ways and was one of the first really "active" first ladies in our country's history.  She also founded the Betty Ford Center and to this day it remains one of the finest treatment centers for drug and alcohol addiction in the world.
