Beethoven vs Coldplay? Fun at Next Weeks Picnic Pops

A musical mashup is when two or more musical works are smashed together. It might be a melody from one tune and a riff and chord progression from another. You still can pick the pieces apart, but you’ve also created something new and completely different.

Grand Rapids Pops’ D&W Fresh Market Picnic Pops returns to Cannonsburg next week with Beethoven v. Coldplay, Thursday and Friday, July 26-27, merging the music of Beethoven’s “Eroica” Symphony No. 3 with the lyrics and hints of melody from Coldplay’s biggest hits. Fun!

Guest conductor Steve Hackman leads the Grand Rapids Symphony plus three guest singers, Malia Civetz, Bill Prokopow and Ben Gully in highlights from Beethoven’s “Eroica” Symphony No. 3 juxtaposed against songs such as Paradise, 42 and Every Teardrop is a Waterfall by the British rock band.
