Do you think backyard chickens be allowed in the City of Grand Rapids? That very issue was discussed in front of city leaders during Tuesday's City Commission meeting.

A proposed ordinance allowing chickens within the city will come with some guidelines.

If you want chickens at your house within the city limits, you will need at least 5,000 square feet.

Chickens must in a chicken coop. That coop will need to be at least 10 feet from your property line.

No roosters will be allowed within the city due to the noise issue.

A permit would be required.

If the proposed ordinance passes, it will go into affect on May 1.
