Most moms know the supplies they needed when they went off to college won't work for their college-aged children today. Just under 45-percent of the mothers taking part in a new Sam's Club poll say a spiral notebook was the most essential thing on their supply list when they started their post-high school education, while 23-percent say a calculator was the must-have item for them. But now, as they're helping their sons and daughters pack up and head off to college, 80-percent believe their children won't be well-equipped if they don't have a laptop. Electronics make up the top four college necessities on today's must-have list, with tablets ranking second. Smartphones are third on the list, followed by netbooks.
