Tom Cook

Hey, I’m the “new guy” here at 100.5 The River.  We’ll get to hang out for part of your workday and the drive home while you’re listening to Today’s Best Mix without the rap. Some people asked “why would you move HERE?” when I started.  I answer that question with disbelief and realize that people in GR simply don’t realize what a great city they have.  Grand Rapids is just a fantastic city.  The people, the downtown, the festivals, the philanthropy of our ‘famous families’ … the list goes on and on.  The VIBE of this city is just incredible.  Those who say “why would you move HERE?” clearly don’t realize how crappy most other similar sized cities are compared to GR. We moved here from the vibrant and clean city (#sarcasm) of Toledo, OH where I was the Operations Manager for six radio stations.  Before that, I was on-air or programming stations in Philadelphia, New York City, Milwaukee, Madison, Cedar Rapids (Iowa) and Waterloo (Iowa). My wife and I met in Madison and were married four days after 9/11.  We have two “furry kids” named Ollie (yellow lab/bassett/corgi) and Chester (bassett). I’m also the Program Director for Channel 95-7 and 100.5 The River, so if you have any comments, suggestions or complaints (I welcome compliments, too), just email or call me!

Tom Cook’s Workday Dog Break – Dog Ruins Marriage Proposal [Video]

I always think it's nice when people involve their kids or pets in marriage proposals and the wedding, in general. Unfortunately, with both kids AND pets, things don't always go as planned.

That's definitely the case in this video. This guy just wanted to have video evidence of the moment that he asked the love of his life to marry him, but the dog had other plans.

Man Stuck At Airport Overnight Makes Fantastic ‘All by Myself’ Video

Being stuck an airport overnight when your flight has been delayed is something that most people don't enjoy. In fact, I'm pretty sure that Richard Dunn, the man who made this video, is the only person in history who has ever enjoyed it.

The stranded traveler occupied his time by creating a really funny music video alternative for Celine Dion’s version of Eric Carmen’s 1975 power ballad "All by Myself".

Breakfast from the Heavens: Almond Joy Pancakes

By Laurenda Marie Bennett

Pancake Sunday was a tradition in my family. I looked forward to those mornings when my mother poured her homemade buckwheat batter onto a warm griddle. Yummmm.

I haven’t met a pancake I didn’t like, but over the years I’ve come to find my favorite.

So, what are my favorite pancakes, you ask?

They are fluffy, chocolatey, whole wheat Almond Joy Pancakes, with plenty of chocolate chips, shredded coconut and sliced almonds. Breakfast from the heavens. They’re made with quality ingredients, too, including unsweetened organic coconut, almond milk and the oh so wonderful coconut oil. It's definitely a healthier pancake if you ask me!

Firefighter Proposes To Girlfriend At Staged Fire Call

Seems like there have been so many neat proposals lately. Have there always been really creative proposals but we never heard much about them before social media?

Anyway, check out this video of Houston firefighter Jesse Gonzalez staging a fire scene so he could pop the question to his girlfriend, Houston police officer Olga Peck (who most definitely does not fit the image that likely comes to mind when you hear her name)
